Paul Simpson admits Carlisle United are no further on with contract offers to two of their Cumbrian stars.

The Blues recently tabled new terms to promising goalkeeper Gabe Breeze after his recent run in the side.

And discussions have been continuing over Owen Moxon’s future after Simpson reported a “positive” recent meeting regarding the midfielder.

But there has been little progress on either situation, the Carlisle manager conceded.

Asked whether there had been a response from Breeze to the offer, Simpson said: “Nope, nothing at all. Still not heard anything.

“I don't know where we're going with it.

“I'm told that Gabe wants to stay. But I don't know where it's at.

“My plan is to go and ring the agent and find out what's going on because I've not heard anything back from that one.”

Simpson also said he had not heard from Moxon’s agent, the former Carlisle manager Graham Kavanagh, following the recent discussions over the midfielder.

“I’m in the dark as much as you at the moment,” added the Blues boss.

Carlisle offered Breeze new terms after the Penrith prospect made four appearances in the first-team this winter.

The academy graduate impressed with some composed displays after he was preferred to previous No1 Tomas Holy.

United have since brought in another senior keeper in Harry Lewis, who has started Carlisle’s last two games against Oxford United and Barnsley as their new first-choice gloveman.

But the Blues want to acknowledge Breeze’s progress and back his potential with an improved deal.

The Cumbrian has been on the bench since Lewis joined from Bradford City, with Holy out of the squad as third choice and a fourth keeper, loanee Jokull Andresson, facing a further spell on the sidelines after fracturing the scapula bone in his shoulder for a second time.

Midfielder Moxon's current deal runs out this summer. United have been trying for months to secure the Denton Holme favourite on new terms.

Simpson said recently that United had "tweaked" their offer in a bid to persuade the Carlisle-born player to put pen to paper.

On the transfer front, meanwhile, the latest name linked to the Blues is Fleetwood Town's former United loan striker Jack Marriott.

Reporter Alan Nixon today claims the Blues and Bristol Rovers are interested in the experienced frontman, who is available for a move from League One's bottom side.
