Cumbrian badminton star Lauren Smith's hopes of success in India were dashed by one of the world's top teams today
Smith and Marcus Ellis fell to defeat in the last 16 of the India Open at the hands of the Chinese fourth seeds.
World number four duo Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping proved too strong for the English pair in their match in New Delhi.
Doubly Olympian Smith, from Longtown, and Ellis went down to a 21-15, 21-3 defeat as the Chinese pair maintained their title bid.
The Cumbrian and her partner had previously made it through the first round with an impressive win over Thai team Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat.
