Former Carlisle United striker Cole Stockton is back in Cumbria - with Barrow.

The forward has left League One strugglers Burton Albion on loan to join the fpurth-tier Bluebirds until the end of the season.

Burton have allowed summer signing Stockton to head to Holker Street after bringing in Manchester United loanee Joe Hugill in recent days.

Stockton, who has scored just once in 16 appearances since joining the Brewers from Morecambe, will now aim to boost Barrow's League Two promotion push.

The man who played for Carlisle in the 2017/18 season told Barrow's website: “I’m excited to get going now.

"It’s been a long but felt like a quick process to get everything sorted and it was a no-brainer for me to get back playing and get back enjoying [my football].”

Iain Wood, Barrow's sporting director, added: “I think it shows how far the club has come, just because Barrow couldn’t have been linked with someone like Cole back in the day as it would have been completely unachievable."

Stockton, who scored once in 12 appearances for Carlisle under Keith Curle, could make his debut for fourth-placed Barrow against fifth-placed Crewe Alexandra this weekend.

Burton, meanwhile, sit 19th in League One, five points above the relegation zone and eight above 23rd-placed Carlisle.

The Brewers recently brought in Martin Paterson as their new head coach after the sacking of Dino Maamria.
