Barnsley boss Neill Collins says the presence of old foe Joe Garner makes Carlisle United a team not to be taken lightly.

The manager of tonight's opponents says the Blues cannot be taken for granted despite their struggling status.

And Collins remembered doing battle in his playing days with veteran United striker Garner as he set the scene for tonight's sixth v 23rd clash at Oakwell.

“I have had a few elbows from Garner before and given him a few myself," said Collins, speaking to the Barnsley Chronicle.

"He’s fantastic in the air even though he’s not big in stature.

“They have good players. They have players fighting for their lives so it’s difficult to play against a team like that.”

Tonight's first league meeting between Barnsley and Carlisle since 1986 has the Tykes strong favourites to chalk up another home win in their push for promotion.

But their manager says there cannot be any complacency in the home ranks.

“Carlisle are really aggressive, they get after you, press, and make you defend a lot," Collins added.

"They have good variety in their play. It will be about us trying to impose ourselves on Carlisle. We did that on Saturday in the first half [against Bristol Rovers] but didn’t capitalise enough and hopefully this time we can.

"I don’t think our players have shown any signs of [complacency]. If there is any in games like this, it is subconscious.

"There shouldn’t be any because Carlisle have shown they can beat anyone and had great results.

“Paul did a fantastic job to get them up and they are just going through that transition period.

“We will need the fans right behind us like they were on Saturday.”

Barnsley's squad includes the former Carlisle striker Sam Cosgrove, who joined the Tykes from Birmingham City on September's deadline day.

He has scored once in 19 appearances so far, with Barnsley's attack spearheaded by 15-goal Devante Cole.

Barnsley, who are six points outside the automatic promotion places, could welcome back Luca Connell and Jamie McCart from injury.

The hosts are unbeaten in nine league games.
