Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford has been named as one of the best young players in the WORLD.

The Burnley keeper, from Greysouthen, features on a list of the planet's rising stars.

The website GiveMeSport has compiled a list of what it says are the top 25 young players in world football based on achievements and potential.

England Under-21 regular Trafford is a new entry on their list at number 25.

It follows a landmark period for the former Carlisle United academy prospect, who starred in England Under-21s' European Championships success last year, and also completed a big-money move from Manchester City to Burnley.

He has been a regular in the Premier League for Vincent Kompany's side this year and is regarded as one of England's top young keepers.

GiveMeSport say of Trafford: "It's fair to say that James Trafford's debut campaign in the Premier League with Burnley has been a baptism of fire, but there's no doubt this is a top young goalkeeper with the potential to become England's number one.

"Trafford became the Clarets' record signing in the summer of 2023 after completing a move from Manchester City which could eventually be worth £19 million with add-ons.

"The 21-year-old, who stands at 6ft 6in (1.98m) tall, made headlines for his heroics during the 2023 European Under-21 Championship final, saving a last-minute penalty against Spain to help England win the tournament for the first time in nearly 40 years."

Farmer's son Trafford has made 21 appearances so far in his debut Premier League campaign, his latest coming on Friday night in a 1-1 draw with Luton Town, Burnley conceding a controversial late equaliser when they felt Trafford was fouled in the build-up to Carlton Morris's goal.

He previously played on loan for Bolton Wanderers and Accrington Stanley.

GiveMeSport, who include players aged 21 and under on their list, rate Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham as the best young player in world football.

Real Madrid and France man Eduardo Camavinga is second with Bayern Munich and Germany star Jamal Musiala third.

Other English players to join Trafford in the top 25 are Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill, Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo and Newcastle United's Lewis Miley.
