Veteran ex-Carlisle United favourite Matty Robson has signed for a new club at 38.

The former Blues wide man has joined Northern League Division Two outfit Brandon United.

The County Durham club announced that Robson had signed to help their bid to climb off the bottom of the table.

"With over 300 EFL appearances for Hartlepool United and Carlisle United, Matty will bring quality and experience on and off the pitch as we look to climb the Northern League Division Two table," the club said in a statement.

Robson clocked up 231 appearances and scored 25 goals in a six-year spell with the Cumbrians.

He joined under Greg Abbott in the summer of 2009 and remained at Brunton Park until 2015.

He was part of the Blues side that reached Wembley twice, Robson helping Abbott's side win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Brentford in 2011.

Among his other memorable moments in a United shirt was a goal at Sunderland's Stadium of Light in the FA Cup in 2014.

He also scored memorable goals against former club Hartlepool, as well as some stunning free-kicks including a long-range special at Walsall.

After leaving Carlisle, Robson moved into non-league and spelt several years with Shildon.

He then turned out for home-town club Coxhoe Club FC before his switch to a Brandon side who sit 22nd in the table after picking up two wins a draw and 16 defeats from their first 19 league games.

The former Blues man could make his debut for the village side when they take on Newcastle University next Saturday.
