Carlisle United have made Luke Armstrong their first major signing of the Piatak era - but what are they getting for their money?

Here's a look back at the striker's career to date, with YouTube's help...

Promotion glory

After coming through the academy ranks at Middlesbrough, followed by spells at Birmingham City and Cowdenbeath, Armstrong's goalscoring career really took off in non-league at Blyth Spartans.

Playing under his dad, manager Alun Armstrong (the former Middlesbrough and Stockport County striker), Luke was prolific as Blyth won the Evo-Stik Premier League title in the 2016/17 season. Here is the 20-year-old scoring in the 3-0 win over Halesowen Town which clinched the championship...

Trophy goals

Armstrong rejoined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017 and featured for their Under-21 side - a period which included three goals in the EFL Trophy - including this poacher's finish at Accrington Stanley.

Making Heed-lines

A loan spell with Gateshead followed in the 2018/19 campaign, ten goals in a half-season spell showcasing Armstrong's abilities...such as this goal as part of a brace against one of his future employers...

Stanley knife

In the second half of that campaign Armstrong got his big EFL chance, with a loan move to Accrington Stanley in League One. That resulted in three goals in 16 outings. Here he is starting and finishing a move in a 5-1 rout against Plymouth Argyle...

Ammies spell

Salford then snapped up the striker on a permanent deal in the summer of 2019 as they stepped up to the EFL for the first time. Four goals in his first campaign there included this predatory finish in a 3-0 win at Walsall...

Pools predator

Armstrong then hit the goal trail for Hartlepool United in a 2020/21 loan move. An impressive haul of 15 goals in 31 appearances helped the Monkey Hangers to National League promotion - including a strike in the play-off final against Torquay United...

Sulphurites scoring

Harrogate Town then made their move in the summer of 2021, starting a two-year spell in north Yorkshire for the frontman. Needless to say, Armstrong was involved in maintaining the Sulphurites' long-standing jinx over Carlisle, with the only goal in a Trophy meeting in early 2022..

...followed by a similarly opportunistic goal in last season's 3-3 draw with Paul Simpson's side.

Now, after 31 goals for Harrogate, the latest stage of his career brings him to Cumbria - where a little of the above would go a long way to protecting Carlisle's League One status in 2024.
