A Carlisle United supporter has written an open letter condemning the 'thoughtless' abuse Paul Simpson faced when the Blues were defeated 3-0 by Blackpool.

The Carlisle boss was forced to endure the abuse when applauding the travelling Cumbrians following the full-time whistle at Bloomfield Road.

In the week following the incident, Carlisle fans have rallied around their manager with Simpson going on to thank supporters for their 'absolutely magnificent' response to the abuse he faced.

One Blues supporter, Stephen Daltry also penned and open letter backing Simpson and calling out those who chose to abuse the Blues manager in Blackpool.

He wrote: "I wanted to write and say how dismayed I was by some of the Carlisle Utd supporters at the abuse they gave their manager after the game against Blackpool last Saturday.

Here is a man who has taken them from relegation from Division Two and then promotion from Division Two to Division One this year, who has really given his heart and soul to this club, and as soon as the going gets tough What do some of these ignorant, thoughtless supporters do?  Hurl abuse.

"Have they no shame?"
