PAUL Simpson does not expect Carlisle to complete any free-agent deals ahead of the January transfer window.

The Blues had been assessing the possibility of recruiting players without clubs to bolster their ranks which have been depleted by injury and cover specific positions such as goalkeeper.

Simpson's honest statement on the potential for free agent arrivals comes a matter of days after the club has been frustrated in their pursuit of former Hearts, Motherwell, Albion Rovers, and Livingston shot-stopper Ross Stewart, however, this deal was thwarted by a registration issue.

Speaking ahead of the Blues' clash with Northampton, the Carlisle boss put his full faith in his current squad who will know have to navigate the congested festive schedule with no reinforcements before January.

He said: "There is scope for it but there is nobody out there who is wanting to come to us, who is available, who is fit enough to come into us.

"I don't expect anything to happen, the group that we have got is the group that we will go into the Christmas games with."
