CARLISLE United have backed a new fan-voted Player of the Month award.

The award, which was launched by Blues fans in November and is solely funded by supporters, will give the Brunton Park faithful a chance to decide who they believe has been Carlisle's best player each month.

Among the Blues players nominated for the first fan-voted award are Jon Mellish, Owen Moxon, Jack Armer, Sam Lavelle, Ben Barclay, Jordan Gibson, and goalkeeper Tomas Holy.

Paul Simpson's side played five matches in all competitions in the penultimate month of 2023, with these included their FA Cup first-round defeat against Leyton Orient and two league defeats against Bristol Rovers and Reading.

The Blues' only victory in November came against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy, however, their most memorable match came in the form of a 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic which will be remembered as the introduction of the Piatak family to Carlisle.

Carlisle United support liaison officer Simon Clarkson explained how he helped Blues fans pitch the idea to the club and shared his excitement after the launch of the new award, with plans to present the monthly winner with their award at Brunton Park already being formulated.

He said: "I think it is a great demonstration of fan engagement and working together. This isn't necessarily a new thing due to the new owners.

"Assupporter liaison officer I was approached by a fan at a match a couple of months ago, they explained the concept where a few fans had got together and felt that there was an opportunity for them to run a monthly vote to select their chosen Carlisle United Player of the Month.

"I made those representations on their behalf and the club and Nigel Clibbens was really receptive to it.

"It will be something to look forward to each month and give every fan the opportunity to make their selection."
