A popular nature reserve near Carlisle hosted its first-ever half-marathon event at the weekend.

Watchtree Nature Reserve, which is situated on the Solway Plain around six miles south west of Carlisle, hosts regular running events on its 205-acre land.

However, Sunday, November 19 marked its first-ever half-marathon event, and it would prove to be a 'huge success' despite the recent impact of Storm Debi.

On Facebook, Watchtree Nature Reserve wrote: "What a day! The first-ever Watchtree half-marathon was a huge success, despite a week of heavy rain and floods, and the weather gods were smiling down on us today!

"We have a big list of thanks to give. Well done and thank you to everyone who took part - you are incredible! We hope you enjoyed your run.
