Former Carlisle United captain Nick Anderton will be back at Brunton Park this weekend.

The brave ex-skipper, who retired this year amid a fight against cancer, will be the Blues' special guest in the game against another of his former clubs, Bristol Rovers.

It will be an emotional and popular appearance for the 27-year-old who has received huge support from fans of both clubs in his battle against the bone cancer osteosarcoma.

Anderton appeared on the pitch at Rovers' game at Reading in midweek and will now reappear in front of United supporters at Brunton Park on Saturday.

The defender shared the good news in September that he was free from cancer after a gruelling year of treatment.

He recently gave a talk to young players at AFC Fylde, where the caretaker manager is Anderson's former Carlisle manager Chris Beech, about his battle against illness.

And Anderton said it was a special feeling to be back at a game after he appeared at Reading for Bristol Rovers' 1-1 draw.

Anderton will be in United's Legends Lounge and RAW Lounge before Saturday's game.

The defender made 54 appearances for Carlisle from 2020 to 2021 before playing 39 times for Bristol Rovers.

The Blues, meanwhile, have confirmed details of their Remembrance ceremony before the November 11 fixture.

Veterans Pete Rees, Mike Little and Mark Ingleton will be there from the King's Own Royal Border Regiment as well as Kgn Claire Herdman and Kgn Kieran Todhunter from the Army Reserves.

They will be laying wreaths on the pitch ahead of kick off before the playing of the Last Post over the public address system.

"Please make your way to your seats and terracing areas in plenty of time so this is respected correctly," United's statement said.
