Carlisle United star Jordan Gibson has missed out on the League One player of the month award - despite a five-goal haul from midfield in October.

The Blues favourite was on the four-man shortlist after his impressive showings last month.

But he lost out on the SkyBet award to Charlton Athletic frontman Alfie May.

The Addicks player hit seven goals in six league appearances last month for the south London side.

Gibson is United’s leading scorer in League One after his hat-trick at Bolton Wanderers plus goals against Peterborough United and Burton Albion.

The other shortlisted players were Wycombe Wanderers' Luke Leahy and Portsmouth's Conor Shaughnessy.

Manager of the month, meanwhile, was Bolton's Ian Evatt - despite his side losing 3-1 at home to the Blues early in October.

The third-placed Trotters won all five of their other league games during the month, earning Evatt the monthly prize ahead of Cheltenham Town's Darrell Clarke, Portsmouth's John Mousinho and Barnsley's Neill Collins.
