Carlisle United are on the brink of takeover, with the Piatak family from Florida poised to seize control of the Blues.

A new era is about to unfold at Brunton Park, with the deal expected to go through this month.

So, as the Brunton Park club prepares for change, we have delved into the archives to look back at the previous times United have gone into new hands.

A new mini-series exclusively for digital subscribers, 'Blues Takeovers', will take a fresh look at the tumultuous times Carlisle fans have woken up to news of a new dawn at their club.

Starting with the Michael Knighton takeover of 1992, then looking at John Courtenay's deal of 2002 and those involving Fred Story in 2004 and the current regime in 2008, we will look back at how the takeovers were announced, some of the key things that were said, how we covered each one - and how the comments at the time matched the reality of what unfolded.

The first part of the mini-series, focusing on the dramatic arrival of Knighton in the summer of 1992, is published tomorrow.
