His form may be the subject of debate among some – but Owen Moxon remains Carlisle United’s top performer in League One.
That’s according to the statistical experts, at least.
The Denton Holme midfielder is out in front as the Blues’ best player so far in 2023/24 by leading number-crunchers WhoScored.com.
They rate Moxon as the 26th best performer in the entire division after three months of the season.
Moxon scores higher than other highly-rated players such as Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, Wycombe Wanderers defender Luke Leahy, Barnsley dangerman Nicky Cadden and Wigan Athletic’s ex-Blues striker Charlie Wyke.
Moxon - who was statistically one of League Two's best players last season in United's promotion season - is the only Carlisle player to feature in the top 50 according to WhoScored.
United’s next best player, according to their calculations, is defender Sam Lavelle.
The summer signing comes in at 54th in the division, ahead of players such as Peterborough frontman Jonson Clarke-Harris and Bristol Rovers attacker Aaron Collins.
Third from United’s point of view is attacking midfielder and leading scorer Jordan Gibson.
He comes in at 75th in League One, ahead of players such as Bolton Wanderers’ Cumbrian midfielder Kyle Dempsey, Stevenage frontman Jamie Reid and Wycombe target man Sam Vokes.
Next for fourth-bottom United in 156th position is Fin Back, followed by Callum Guy, Paul Huntington, Jon Mellish, Tomas Holy, Jack Armer, Joe Garner, Sean Maguire, Luke Plange, Terry Ablade, Alfie McCalmont.
WhoScored.com calculate ratings based on a number of different categories.
They take into account area such as goals, assists, shots, pass success percentage, aerial duels, man of the match awards, tackles, interceptions, dribbles, clearances, blocks, crosses and key passes.
Moxon’s average rating so far is 7.08, with Lavelle 6.96 and Gibson 6.89.
The highest rated player in the division is Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop on 7.46, followed by Oxford United’s Cameron Brannagan (7.45), Stevenage defender Carl Piergianni (7.39) and Blackpool hitman Jordan Rhodes (7.38).
