Evergreen former Carlisle United striker Derek Asamoah is back on the move - at 42.

The veteran ex-Blues favourite has signed for Isthmian League North Division club Brightlingsea Regent.

It sees the experienced frontman leave New Salamis, who play in the same league.

Asamoah continues to show no sign of winding down his career, and has already scored 12 goals this season.

He will now aim to take his long-standing skills to Essex after two campaigns with north London outfit New Salamis, where he played alongside his sons Maleace and Zayshaun.

The man who played for Carlisle from 2014-17, and famously scored for the Blues against Liverpool at Anfield, confirmed his move in a social media post.

He said he was leaving New Salamis - a club he helped to promotion last year - "with a heavy heart".

Asamoah said it had been one of the most difficult decisions in his career as he regarded the club as a "genuine home".

He reflected on back-to-back player of the season and top scorer accolades, adding his pride in the friendships he had made at New Salamis and the honour of captaining the club.

New Salamis paid tribute to the frontman on his departure, saying: "We would all like to thank Del for everything he has done for the club.

"He leaves as the club's all time top goal scorer with 70 goals. Derek received an offer he couldn’t refuse and we wish him the best of luck."

Ghana-born Asamoah joined United under Keith Curle in 2014 and in his second campaign with the club wrote his name into Blues legend by scoring in front of the Kop in September 2015's 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

He left in the summer of 2016 before returning for a further spell, and in total Asamoah scored 14 goals in 90 appearances.

His other clubs in the UK and overseas include Northampton Town, Mansfield Town, Lincoln City, Chester, Shrewsbury Town, Nice, Hamilton Academical, Lokomotiv Sofia, Pohang Steelers, Daegu, Guiseley, Haringey Borough and Cheshunt.

In a statement, fifth-placed Brightlingsea Regent said:
