Some of the latest news and gossip from around Carlisle United’s division…

VALIANTS EYE AMERICAN PROSPECT

American midfielder Adeteye Gbadehan is being linked with a move to Port Vale.

The 19-year-old has been on trial with other clubs in England, including Southampton, Brentford and Blackpool.

But it’s reported by Alan Nixon that the Valiants are close to bringing in Gbadehan, who played for Future SC Monarchs in the USA.

ADDICKS BRING IN KEEPER

Charlton Athletic have drafted in goalkeeper Sam Walker.

The experienced gloveman has joined the Addicks, having latterly been with Kilmarnock.

Technical director Andy Scott said of the 32-year-old ex-Colchester United and Reading man: “He has played a lot of first team football at all levels and has demonstrated maturity and quality in the time he has spent with us and gives us excellent cover in the goalkeeping department.”

PLAYERS BEMOAN ADDED TIME ‘RISK’

Players across the EFL have registered their concerns about the impact of more added time in games this season.

A survey by players’ union the Professional Footballers’ Association found that nearly 60 per cent of players were against the extension to stoppage time.

Three-quarters of EFL players also felt they were not given a proper break between seasons. The league said player welfare was a “priority” and they would discuss specifics with the PFA.

DEFENDER’S NEW DEAL AT HIGH-FLIERS

Ciaron Brown has extended his deal at high-flying Oxford United.

The ex-Cardiff City defender has agreed a new “long-term” contract with Liam Manning’s second-placed side.

“He is a fierce competitor, always totally committed and has a fantastic attitude,” Manning said on Oxford’s website about Brown.

POMPEY PROSPECT LEAVES ON LOAN

Portsmouth’s Liam Vincent is on the move to non-league.

The former Bromley man has made the fifth temporary move of his Fratton Park spell by joining Worthing.

Defender Vincent, 20, is yet to feature for Pompey’s first team since his move from Bromley in 2021.

GRECIAN HEADS TO GLOVERS

Another League One player on the move is Exeter City forward Sonny Cox.

He has made a West Country switch to Yeovil Town in National League South.

The former Manchester United trialist, 19, could make his debut against Worthing on Saturday.

AXED MANAGER SPEAKS OUT

Former Charlton Athletic manager Dean Holden has spoken for the first time about his sacking at The Valley.

He was axed just five games into the new season.

But, speaking on Sky Sports, former Bristol City man Holden told Sky Sports: ““I got over it pretty quickly – I’ll be honest. My private life has had some tough challenges – I have learned how to navigate this path.

“My wife always says, ‘If you want a nine to five, a boring job and no highs or lows, then go and do that,’ and I certainly don’t want to do that.”

PIRATES MONITOR SPANISH DEFENDER

Experienced ex-Liverpool and Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala has been training with Bristol Rovers.

BristolLive have reported that the 32-year-old has been with Joey Barton’s side for training.

Ayala left Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.

CLUB MOURNS FORMER STAR

Peterborough United have paid tribute to their former player Neil Le Bihan, who has died at 47.

The former Tottenham Hotspur prospect, who also played for Bishop’s Stortford, Dover Athletic and Crawley Town, passed away suddenly.

“The club would like to offer our condolences to Neil’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time,” said Posh in a statement.

EVANS ON WARPATH AGAIN

Stevenage’s Steve Evans has aimed his latest broadside after decisions in their defeat to Blackpool.

Boro lost 3-0 at Bloomfield Road and Evans felt his side were denied a “clearly onside” goal which would have made it 1-1 before half-time.

“We'll get another e-mail and I'm sick of emails from them,” Evans told The Comet. "The Football League need to get a grip at how bad officials are because that was horrendous from the assistant referee.”

EX-BLUES MAN STILL OUT

Jack Sowerby remains on the injury list at Northampton Town along with Jon Guthrie and Will Hondermarck.

All three are set to miss their clash with Bolton Wanderers this weekend, reports the Chronicle & Echo.

Ex-Carlisle loan star Sowerby is back in light training while captain Guthrie has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring problem.

TYKES ON TRACK FOR RECORD

Barnsley are on course for a club record away from home.

Victory at Leyton Orient this weekend would mean six straight wins on their travels.

It contrasts with poor home form. Boss Neil Collins told the Barnsley Chronicle: “An away run like this puts a target on your back. So we have to deal with that.”
