The son of a former Carlisle United star will help the Blues’ first-team goalkeepers this weekend.

Roman Caig, whose father is ex-Blues No1 and coach Tony Caig, is set to step up in the absence of Dave Timmins.

United’s senior goalkeeping coach Timmins is serving a two-game touchline ban as part of his punishment from the Football Association.

First-choice keeper Tomas Holy filled in for Timmins on the touchline at Tuesday’s EFL Trophy defeat to Nottingham Forest Under-21s, a game for which the big Czech was not involved in the squad.

But with Holy set to return to the side against Leyton Orient for Saturday's League One clash at Brunton Park, lead academy keeper coach Caig will step up.

Timmins was banned from the touchline for two games and fined £750 as part of an independent panel’s ruling.

It followed his red card after last week’s 1-1 draw with Peterborough United, Timmins sanctioned over alleged “abusive/insulting” comments to the match officials.

On Holy’s involvement on the touchline last night, manager Paul Simpson said: “We asked Tomas if he would do it and he did.

“On Saturday we’ve got Roman Caig from the youth team who’ll come and do the warm-up for Tomas.

“He’s got Gabe [Breeze] and Jokull [Andresson] there as well.

“The goalkeepers are really regimented about what their warm-up is, so it’s not a case of Roman having to think about something different.

“It will be mapped out.”

Simpson said Timmins will still be able to play his part before and during Saturday’s game despite his suspension.

“Dave will still do the set plays leading into the game, he’s just not allowed to be on the pitch before, during or two hours after, I think it is,” added the manager.

“[Last night] he was sat upon the gantry with [analyst] Jacob Blain and was in contact with us with the walkie-talkie, which is allowed.

“Dave made a mistake, he let his emotions get the better of him and he has to take it on the chin.”
