RAMS SNAP UP FREE AGENT

Derby County, who take on Carlisle at Brunton Park this weekend, have gone into the free agent market to sign Ryan Nyambe.

The former Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic man has joined on a deal until January 2024.

Namibia international Nyambe, 25, could be involved at Carlisle. “He'll join in with the group on Thursday and hopefully play a part this weekend,” manager Paul Warne told RamsTV.

GRECIANS’ HEAVIEST DEFEAT

Exeter City suffered their joint worst ever home defeat on Tuesday night as they were thrashed 9-0 by Reading in the EFL Trophy.

The Grecians are second in League One but a young side were taken apart by the Royals.

“While we played a younger team, it was nowhere near good enough,” said Caldwell to DevonLive. “It is a harsh lesson, but one they have to take on the chin and come back stronger from.”

GOALLESS ROBINS BOSS DEFIANT

Cheltenham Town’s wait for a league goal goes on after a 3-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

The Robins have not registered a single strike in eight games and sit bottom of the table.

ARSENAL EYE ROYALS PAIR

Arsenal are keeping tabs on two Reading players, according to reports.

The Gunners have been checking out defender Tyler Bindon and forward Caylan Vickers.

The Express report that the Premier League club sent a scout to monitor both teenagers in Reading’s 9-0 EFL Trophy win at Reading.

READING TAKEOVER INTEREST

More speculation at Reading, where owner Dai Yongge’s running of the club has been chequered to say the least.

The club recently deducted a point amid financial troubles are now said to be in the sights of businessman William Storey.

The Rich Energy CEO, linked in the past with failed Sunderland and Coventry City bids, has reportedly met members of the Royals hierarchy.

CRITICISM OVER DEFENDER MOVE

FC Halifax Town have hit back at comments from Port Vale after the Valiants signed defender Jesse Debrah.

Vale director of football David Flitcroft said Debrah had returned from a “poor rehabilitation programme” following injury.

Halifax boss Chris Millington responded by telling the Halifax Courier: “I felt that was really poor and maybe there's an agenda behind that type of announcement. I thought it showed a bit of a lack of class.”

EX-BLUES KEEPER ON DONS MOVE

Michael Kelly, the former Carlisle United keeper who recently joined MK Dons, has been speaking about his move.

The Irish gloveman made his debut and kept a clean sheet in MK’s EFL Trophy win over Oxford United.

Speaking to MK Citizen, Kelly said of his time after being released by Carlisle: “It’s really difficult, waiting. If anyone told you otherwise, they’re lying. It’s like pulling the rug from under you tomorrow – you’ve got no job and you’re not guaranteed to have one again ever in this line of work.”

CODS KEEPER JOINS MAN UTD

Young Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Billy Hartley has made a dream move to Manchester United.

The 12-year-old has been snapped up in “an agreement with a significant training compensation fee”, Fleetwood said.

“We are really proud of Billy joining Manchester United. It’s an incredible achievement for him to be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world. It shows again the progression of our academy,” said Fleetwood’s academy manager Jack Higgins.

WYKE’S WAY BACK

Wigan Athletic’s ex-Carlisle striker Charlie Wyke says the League One player of the month award means the world to him.

Wyke has started the season in fine form as he continues his progress back in football after the cardiac arrest in November 2021 that nearly cost him his life.

“I'm delighted with everything that's happened after last year and to come and have a full pre-season and hit the ground running is amazing for me,” Wyke told MailOnline. "It has put a lot of confidence in me going forward.”
