A tractor-pulling team from Cumbria won its second successive championship at an event in Blackpool last month.

The members of the Solway Tractor Pulling Team, based in Newton Arlosh, have been taking part in motorsport competitions for around 15 years and travel around the country in order to compete.

Tractor pulling is known as the world's most powerful motorsport and involves modified tractors pulling a heavy drag or sled along a 35 ft wide, 330 ft track, with the winner being the tractor that pulls the drag the farthest.

The bank holiday weekend in August saw them travel to the Mitas Agri Eurocup Tractor Pulling event in Great Eccleston, Lancashire, where about 50 tractors gathered to compete.

There, with their 2000-horsepower tractor Caesar, a stablemate orange factory 3rd, they would win for the second successive year, taking home the trophy and some prize money.

Ken Foster said: "It’s a big thing. We were competing against some top tractors. We bought the tractor from Finland four years ago and it has won the championship the last two years. Hopefully, we will get some more sponsors and we will go for it again next year."

The tractors were driven by Jamie Fleming and Ken's daughter Kerry, and they were able to claim the championship win after a tight-fought battle with a team from Aberdeen.

Tractor pulling is, unsurprisingly, an expensive sport, as the team have to strip down the tractors each winter due to safety checks.

They are therefore hoping to receive some more sponsors in order to continue their tractor-pulling passion into its 16th year for any 2024 events.

The duo added: "We would like to thank all sponsors, drivers, and team members for all their help over the past years. Without them, things couldn't be achieved."
