A date has been confirmed for Carlisle United's county cup derby with Carlisle City this month.

The Fred Conway Cumberland Cup first round draw handed the Blues a trip to 2022 winners City.

And they will go head to head on Tuesday, September 26 at 7.30pm at City's Three Rivers Health & Safety Consultancy Stadium (Gillford Park).

The first round tie is a repeat of 2022's county senior cup semi-final when Jim Nichols' Northern League Division One side shocked the Blues with a 2-1 victory.

City went on to lift the trophy that year after defeating Wetheriggs United in the final.

City have made a strong start to their league campaign this season with Saturday's 3-0 win at Newcastle Benfield taking them fifth in the table.

Nichols' men have won four, drawn three and lost one in the league so far in their second season at this level.

The home side have a number of former United players in their ranks such as Scott Simons, Dan Kirkup, Kieron Olsen, Jay Kelly, Jordan Holt, Dan Hill, Keighran Kerr, Roan Steele and Ryan Swailes, while they are captained by Josh Simpson, nephew of Blues manage Paul.

United are hoping to embark on a successful county cup run and get their hands on a trophy they last won in 2019.

They went out at the quarter-final stage last season to eventual winners Workington Reds.

Entry to the City-United game on September 26 is £5 for adults and £3 concessions, payable by cash or card at the turnstiles.
