CARLISLE United manager Paul Simpson has challenged his Blues to 'spoil' the Stevenage 'party' when the two sides meet this weekend.

The Blues make the long trip to Hertfordshire to take on Steve Evans' side at the Lamex Stadium.

Carlisle's League Two promotion partners have made a flying start to the League One season and could go top of the third tier with a victory against the Cumbrians.

Speaking ahead of this clash, Simpson put Stevenage's early success down to the Boro manager's winning brand of football.

"I think it's easy to criticise their style of football, but supporters want to see winning football and Steve Evans knows how to win games of football," He said.

"Listen, I don't think he is too worried about what people think about him so it is irrelevant what I say, he will be delighted with the start they have made and they will know on Saturday they have an opportunity to go top of League One and that is no mean achievement so we have got to do everything we can to make sure it is not their day.

The Blues boss also explained how he knows his squad can count on the relentless support of the traveling Cumbrians to help them spoil the Stevenage party.

He said: "They are appealing for fans to turn up, we know we do not have to do that because our fans turn up in their numbers anyway, but we have to make sure if they want to have a party on Saturday, we have got everything we can to spoil it and we are capable of doing it whichever way it has to be.

"If it is a really hard-working tough performance, or if it has got some football on top of that then brilliant, but we have to do everything we can to make sure we get the right performance that hopefully leads to the right result.
