PAUL Simpson has praised Carlisle United debutant Josh Kayode for giving the Blues a 'different dimension'.

Kayode, who re-joined the Blues on loan on Deadline Day, made his third debut for Carlisle in their 1-0 EFL Trophy defeat against Accrington Stanley.

Despite not being able to mark the occasion with a goal, Simpson, speaking after the match revealed how he has been gradually re-introducing the forward back to life at Carlisle United and limited with EFL Trophy minutes with a view to the Blues' trip to Stevenage.

"The plan was always for JJ [Kayode] to get 60 minutes," He said.

"I wanted to integrate and introduce him slowly so we can consider him for the weekend without pushing him too far.

"I was so pleased when he got up after being smashed on the edge of the box because that was a horrendous tackle, really bad challenge, thankfully he is.

"There was a lot of good stuff.

Simpson also described how the 23-year-old forward can give the Blues a 'different dimension' whilst also challenging his other Carlisle forward to continue to give him selection 'problems'.

He said: "We need options as forward players, we had that last year.

"With Josh Kayode coming in you can see what he is all about, he gives us a different dimension.

"He has got a lot of qualities, he has got pace, he has physical presence and good awareness.

"Terry gives us something different which he showed at the weekend and Luke [Plange] has started to look bright again, Sean Maguire has looked bright and it is a case of everyone giving me problems."
