Former Carlisle United striker Sam Cosgrove made a League One move on deadline day.

The big frontman joined Barnsley from Birmingham City.

Cosgrove signed a two-year deal at Oakwell with the option of a further year.

His arrival at the Yorkshire club was confirmed close to the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday night.

Barnsley had earlier been linked with Joshua Kayode, who ended up joining Carlisle on loan from Rotherham United.

But in the end it was another ex-Blues forward they brought in.

Cosgrove spoke of his delight at joining Neill Collins' squad and said: "I’m over the moon to be here. Finally got it sorted. Bit of a late one, but I’m ecstatic.”

Khaled El-Ahmad, Barnsley chief executive, added on the club's website: “We are happy to be able to bring Sam to Oakwell.

“Sam represents a different profile of striker to add to the forwards we currently have at the club and will add another dimension to the attack.

“Sam knows what it takes to achieve promotion and is excited for the challenge."

Former Wigan Athletic man Cosgrove was with United in the 2017/18 and after just 12 appearances and one goal, was snapped up by Aberdeen.

A prolific three-year spell at Pittodrie earned him a big-money move to Birmingham, since when he has had loan spells at Shrewsbury Town, AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle.

Cosgrove and Barnsley will face Carlisle at Oakwell on November 18 before the return league game at Brunton Park on March 12.
