Former Carlisle United loan striker John-Kymani Gordon has completed a move to one of their League One rivals.

The Crystal Palace striker has joined Cambridge United on a half-season loan.

Gordon spent the second half of last season with the Cumbrians, and started in the League Two play-off final against Stockport County.

Early in pre-season Blues boss Paul Simpson suggested there was interest in bringing the forward back, but later cooled on the idea.

And the pacy 20-year-old now links up with Mark Bonner's squad at the Abbey Stadium.

Gordon said he had turned down interest elsewhere to join the side who sit ninth in the early League One table.

And he spoke of his aim to build on his efforts at Carlisle in the spring.

“I am delighted,” Gordon told the U's website.

“Obviously I had a good end to last season and a good pre-season with Palace, so I just want to get back playing and to build on last season.

"This seems like the perfect club for that.

“There was other interest but after speaking to the gaffer and hearing about the way he wants to play, it is exactly how I want to play too, so I made my decision.”

Manager Bonner said he expected Gordon to provide "another quality attacking option for us".

He added: “Throughout his loan period, I expect to see him excite supporters with his direct attacking and powerful play.

"Like many of our forwards, he can play in a number of positions and his qualities suit us perfectly."

Gordon will be in line to face Carlisle when the Blues head to Cambridge on October 28. Should he extend his loan he could encounter United at Brunton Park on February 17.
