Paul Simpson says Carlisle United have offered Owen Moxon probably the best contract any Blues player has received.

But negotiations are still at stalemate because of certain “unacceptable” additions Moxon and his agent are trying to make to the terms, United’s manager added.

Carlisle are hoping to secure Moxon, whose current deal is up next summer, on a longer and improved contract.

The situation is ongoing at a time Simpson says the Blues have so far received no further enquiries for their star midfielder.

United are hoping for a quiet transfer deadline day in that particular respect – and for an eventual breakthrough in talks with the Denton Holme favourite.

“We’ve made, I think I’m right in saying, the best contract that’s probably been offered to a Carlisle player, to Owen Moxon,” said Simpson.

“But it’s just other bits and pieces that they’re trying to put in that we’re not satisfied with at the moment.

“I can’t say what it is because it’s a private matter, but I think if supporters knew what it was, they would totally understand why we’re not happy about it.

“But it is what it is. Owen Moxon’s our player, I expect him to be our player until at least the end of next season and I hope we can come to a resolution with the other bits and pieces.”

Simpson said the things Moxon and his agent were trying to add were not financial aspects which would cost the Blues.

United’s boss replied “possibly” when asked by BBC Radio Cumbria whether that referred to a potential release clause.

Blackpool had a reported £250,000 bid rebuffed by United earlier in the summer.

Asked if there was any renewed interest in Moxon as the Friday 11pm transfer deadline approached, Simpson said: “There’s nothing at all going on there.

“As far as I’m aware nobody has called us, and we are still trying to get Owen Moxon to sign a new contract here.

“It’s not to do with the money, it’s things that him and his agent are asking to be put in the contract, which are not finances that are going to cost us anything, but what’s being asked at the moment is unacceptable.

“We just keep having those conversations. We'll keep talking and trying to find a way."
