Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson looks set to complete a permanent move to Crystal Palace.

Reports on Saturday night say the Manchester United keeper, from Whitehaven, will undergo a medical in south London on Sunday.

And a fee worth £15m plus £5m in add-ons will seal the deal, according to The Athletic.

Henderson's first club Carlisle United will be on alert for sell-on benefits from the deal.

The keeper left Brunton Park's academy for Man Utd back in 2011.

Henderson, 26, had long been linked with a return to former loan club Nottingham Forest.

But a delay in his potential departure, as Man Utd resolved their goalkeeping situation over the summer, saw Forest move for Arsenal's Matt Turner.

While the City Ground club were not ruled out of the race, Premier League rivals Palace emerged last week as the strongest contenders for Henderson's signature.

England international Henderson's move is expected to go through with Man Utd set to sign Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir as back-up to Andre Onana, who replaced David de Gea this summer as the club's No1.

Henderson has been on the bench for Man Utd in their opening Premier League games - including Saturday's 3-2 win over Forest - but has long been keen to secure regular first-team football at the top level.

When asked about Henderson's potential departure, Erik ten Hag was quoted in The Athletic as saying: "If that’s the case, we will bring the news. We are prepared well, we are fully in control, if there are transfers, we need to keep the squad competitive.

"Will be a tough season with many games to cover. In goalkeeping position, you need three, who all can keep the Premier League standard."

Carlisle have already benefited through Henderson's Man Utd move with payments from his first-team appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Blues chief executive Nigel Clibbens recently said that potential future proceeds from a sale would be welcome but not "transformative" to Carlisle.

The Cumbrians have already benefited financially from a former academy keeper's move this summer - James Trafford's switch from Manchester City to Burnley.

On Henderson, Clibbens told a summer fans' forum: "Dean Henderson – that [deal] was done before EPPP, and that was done in anticipation of what EPPP would look like, so there’s a small percentage there.

“Even at big, double-digit millions, it’s not going to help us too much. It would be welcome, and would help with transfer budgets and things like that, but isn’t going to give us a mountain of cash to do everything we’ve talked about [such as pay off debt or enable major infrastructure projects]."
