Cumbrian badminton star Lauren Smith's World Championship hopes ended today.
Carlisle-born Smith and mixed doubles partner Marcus Ellis fell to defeat against their French opponents in Copenhagen.
The round of 32 game saw Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue take the first game 21-18.
A 21-13 victory in the second game then earned the French pair a place in the last 16.
Longtown player Smith and Ellis had won their first round game with a comeback victory against Australian team Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Gronya Somerville.
In the women's doubles in the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships, it was a first round defeat for double Olympian Smith and Chloe Birch, who were beaten by Singapore duo Yu Jia Jin and Jia Ying Crystal Wong.
