Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has suggested their signing of another goalkeeper does not affect their pursuit of Dean Henderson.

Forest brought in Arsenal’s Matt Turner this week.

But Cooper says there was no connection between that deal and the situation with Henderson, who is a long-time target for the City Ground club.

While the Forest boss declined to comment directly on Manchester United’s Henderson, his remarks suggested a move for the Cumbrian may still be live.

“The two are not linked,” he said, when asked in a press conference whether Turner’s arrival could affect their Henderson interest.

“I’m not going to talk about a player at another club. I’m only going to talk about a player that’s with us.

“I’m delighted Matt’s here. It’s something we’re been trying for a little while, I’m delighted to get it over the line and looking forward to [him] getting going.”

Whitehaven-born Henderson spent last season on loan with Forest and has been a top target on a permanent basis.

It has been reported that a loan deal with an obligation to buy the 26-year-old ex-Carlisle United academy No1 is on the table.

He is still expected to leave Old Trafford but things could be further held up at a time Man Utd keeper Tom Heaton has suffered a calf injury.

That could see boss Erik Ten Hag need Henderson as cover for first-choice summer signing Andre Onana.

A club statement said: "Tom Heaton is out of Manchester United’s Premier League season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“The experienced goalkeeper sustained an injury in training that is still being assessed but he is expected to be unavailable for the first few weeks of the season.”
