Carlisle United's Max Kilsby went straight into the Annan Athletic side for their Scottish League One opener.

The defender rejoined Peter Murphy's squad on a half-season loan on the eve of their new campaign.

Kilsby, 19, played the full game as Annan started life in the third tier with a 3-0 defeat at Falkirk.

It proved a tough introduction to the higher level for Murphy's promoted men as goals from Ross MacIver, Callumn Morrison and Aidan Nesbitt consigned them to defeat.

The game also saw a league debut for ex-Carlisle midfielder Josh Dixon, who also played the full game.

A number of ex-Blues had eventful opening weekends in the new season.

Omari Patrick got on the scoresheet twice in his debut for Sutton United.

The ex-Carlisle man, who left the Blues this summer, netted in the 23rd and 50th minutes as Sutton thrashed newly-promoted Notts County 5-1 at Gander Green Lane.

Morgan Feeney went straight into the Shrewsbury Town defence in League One and helped them keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town, Carlisle-born ex-Blues frontman Ryan Bowman hitting the only goal.

The National League saw a debut for Brennan Dickenson, who came off the bench in the first half for Oldham Athletic as they went down 4-0 at Southend United.

Other ex-Blues were on the scoresheet, meanwhile, with Charlie Wyke getting both goals for Wigan Athletic in their 2-1 win at Derby County in League One.

Jack Iredale's early opener helped Bolton Wanderers to a 3-0 home win over Lincoln City in the third tier.

In National League North, meanwhile, a debut strike from Mark Ellis helped Chorley to a 1-1 draw with Brackley Town.

Kristian Dennis was on the losing side on his Tranmere Rovers debut, the striker coming off the bench in their 2-1 home defeat to Barrow in League Two.

Joel Senior enjoyed a happier debut for Morecambe, playing the full game as they defeated Walsall 2-1 in the fourth tier.

In the Championship, Jerry Yates marked his Swansea City debut with a goal in their 1-1 draw against Birmingham City.
