A CARLISLE martial arts fighter is set for a national title fight.

17-year-old Matty McLeish Junior is continuing his meteoric rise in the world of Muay Thai and will now look to claim a national accolade when he takes on Scottish foe Scott McCulloch.

The bout for the Pro-Am British title will take place in Ayr on October 14 at the Martial Mayhem Muay Thai Super Fights event.

Matty, who trains at Dragon's Gym, boasts an unbeaten fight record, which he extended to 11 after a victory in Kilmarnock, Scotland in May.

Christian Percival is Matty's coach and speaking after the 17-year-old victory in Kilmarnock described him as a 'credit' to the Carlisle gym.

He said: "At only 17 years of age, Matty is fighting against grown men and certainly holding his own.

"Matty dominated the first three rounds of the fight, landing some solid kicks and knees, eventually stopping his opponent with a barrage of knees and punches.

"As a coach, it’s great when your fighters start getting noticed on the circuit and we received some nice words about Matty from other gyms and coaches.

"We are all so proud of these lads who are a credit to the gym and are a great example to the rest of the up-and-coming fighters we have at the gym.
