A CARLISLE-based futsal club has claimed second place in a Spanish cup competition.

Carlisle Futsal Club took part in the Valencia Futsal Cup in Blanes which ran between Friday, June 30th, and Monday, July 3.

The squad, made up of 14 members ranging in ages from 11 to 14, navigated their way through the tournament's group stages, quarter-final, and semi-final before being defeated in the final by Covisa Manresa FS.

Despite the disappointment of their final loss, Carlisle Futsal Club coach Alan (Al) Tindall spoke about how proud he was of his team.

He said: "We played an incredible team, the Catalonia champions but it was an amazing experience.

"The lads have been incredible, from the social side of things the behavior in the hotel and being together all the time and building the team spirit but also sampling the different culture.

"On the Futsal side, it has been a real education and sets us up for our training when we get back

These trips for Carlisle Futsal Club help the coaches educate their players and show them how other teams in other countries embrace the game.
