Cumbrian Lauren Smith remains on course for success at the European Games after easing into the badminton mixed doubles semi-finals.

Smith and Marcus Ellis defeated Polish opponents in the last eight as they kept up their 100 per cent record in the tournament.

After an unbeaten three-match run in the pool stage, Longtown's Smith and partner Ellis won 21-8, 21-16 in this morning's quarter-final.

They saw off the challenge of Pawel Smilowski and Magdalena Swierczynska and can now look forward to a last-four clash on Saturday morning.

There they will take on French duo Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue for a place in Sunday's final, which would be against either Danish or Dutch opposition.

Smith and Ellis had already seen off pairs from Slovenie, Austria and Germany in the pool stage.

It included an impressive comeback triumph for the Team GB pair against German duo Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau, the reigning European champions.
