Cumbrian badminton star Lauren Smith has enjoyed back-to-back wins at the start of the European Games.

Smith and mixed doubles partner Marcus Ellis were back on court in Poland today.

And they came from behind to claim an impressive win over their German opponents.

Double Olympian Smith and Ellis lost the first game against reigning European champions Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau 21-16.

But the Cumbrian and her partner battled back to level the match with a 21-17 win in the second game.

And Smith, from Longtown, and Ellis dominated the decider to win 21-10, adding a second victory to their opening Pool D win over Slovenia’s Miha Ivančič and Petra Polanc.

Smith and Ellis are hoping to retain their European Games crown and the Team GB duo next take on Austria’s Philip Birker and Katharina Hochmeir on Thursday.
