England Under-21s and their Cumbrian duo will bid to seal qualification for the knockout stages in the Euros later today.

Lee Carsley’s young Lions take on Israel in their second group game.

And James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite are again in the mix as England look to build on their winning start.

Goalkeeper Trafford started their opener against the Czech Republic, when England claimed a 2-0 victory, while defender Branthwaite was on the bench.

Another positive outcome would be enough to send England into the second round.

They take on an Israel side who drew 1-1 with holders Germany in their opening game.

Manchester City keeper Trafford, from Greysouthen, impressed in England’s group C opener and will be favourite to get the nod in goal again in Georgia.

Everton defender Branthwaite, from Wigton, will meanwhile be hoping for his first involvement in the tournament.

England are aiming to make it through the group stages for the first time in three attempts, having fallen short in the 2019 and 2021 tournaments.

Head coach Carsley was delighted with England’s opening-game efforts, telling UEFA.tv: “The preparation has gone really well, but I didn’t want to jinx us before the game by saying that.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe struck England’s second goal against the Czechs after Jacob Ramsey’s opener.

The Gunners prospect said: “We wanted to make a statement in the first game.

“We knew the Czechs would be really strong, so we are really happy with the three points.”
