Play-off goal hero Callum Guy says he can’t wait to play for Carlisle United at Wembley.

The midfielder admitted he struggled to find the words to describe his emotions after the semi-final win over Bradford City.

Guy scored in extra-time at Brunton Park and, after the Bantams pegged United back, Ben Barclay headed the Blues into the final.

The midfielder said United’s never-say-die spirit was summed up in their extra-time 3-1 (3-2 aggregate) victory over Mark Hughes’ side.

“I can’t put it into words. It’s a special day for everyone at the club,” Guy said.

“To get the win in extra-time…everyone’s put in such a great performance and I’m glad to get on the scoresheet as well.”

Asked if he thought his goal would prove the winner, he told Sky Sports: “You never know, it’s never over until it’s over.

“We were disappointed to concede so early in the second half of extra-time. But we kept ticking, kept putting balls in the box and it paid off.

“It sums up the special character in this team, we don’t know when to stop, we carry on, carry on, we kept going and thankfully we got to Wembley.”

On the prospect of playing at the national stadium, the 26-year-old said: “I can’t wait. I’ve never played there before, I get to take my two little ones...I’m looking forward to it.”

And on play-off final opponents Stockport County, he said: “We know they’re a good team with a lot of good players but we’re going to go there, put in a performance and hopefully get the win.”
