Peter Murphy’s Annan Athletic took a huge step towards the play-off final with a stunning 6-0 win over Dumbarton.

Murphy’s side thrashed their opponents in their Scottish League One semi-final first leg.

It was a sensational night at Galabank as Annan, third-placed finishers in League Two, demolished the second-placed Sons.

Annan surged into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Tommy Goss, Carlisle United loan defender Max Kilsby and Tommy Muir.

Murphy’s side turned the screw further in the second half as Aidan Smith, Dom Docherty and Benjamin Luissint increased their victory margin.

It gives Annan a huge advantage ahead of Saturday’s second leg at Dumbarton.

And Murphy’s side are now in a great position to seal their place in the play-off final for a second successive season.

Should they progress they will meet either Clyde or East Fife for a place in Scotland’s third tier.

Clyde have the advantage in that semi-final after a 1-0 away win in the first leg on Tuesday night.

Annan are hoping to go one better than last season when they lost to Edinburgh City in the two-legged 2021/22 play-off final.
