League Two club Doncaster Rovers today sacked head coach Danny Schofield after the end of their season.

And the Yorkshire club say they will announce his successor soon.

Schofield had only been in charge since last October.

But after Rovers' underwhelming 18th-placed finish, the ex-Huddersfield Town man has now departed.

Chairman David Blunt, in a statement, said: “It is with the deepest regret that we have made this decision.

"Danny is a Doncaster lad and everyone at the club desperately wanted him to be a success here.

"His dedication, commitment and work ethic during his time at the club have been unquestionable.

"Whilst it is true Danny has not had the opportunities to build his own team, and the injuries have depleted the squad, we would have still expected to see a better turn of results than what has been achieved this season.

“In recent weeks, Danny has handled some difficult circumstances with the utmost dignity and has the respect and best wishes of all staff at Doncaster Rovers.

"We expect to announce Danny’s replacement within the next ten days.”

Former Peterborough United and Hull City boss Grant McCann - who managed Doncaster in 2018/19 - has been linked with the vacancy, Football League World have reported.

Among Schofield's victories during his seven-month tenure was a 2-1 win over Carlisle on New Year's Day.

MK Dons, newly relegated from League One, are also making a managerial change.

They have sacked head coach Mark Jackson, with coaches Robbie Stockdale and Aaron Dagger also leaving.
