Carlisle United’s Owen Moxon has been named in League Two’s team of the season.

The midfield star from Denton Holme was selected in the divisional XI at the EFL Awards.

It is the latest recognition for the 25-year-old after a superb first campaign in the Football League for his home-city club.

Moxon has shone for Carlisle after joining from Annan Athletic last summer, contributing six goals and 14 assists so far.

He was the only Blues player named in the League Two XI of the season.

Moxon attended the EFL Awards ceremony in London, where those attending were told of his background supporting Carlisle and, after his move back to his boyhood club, how he "helped them fly up the table in what's been an eyecatching season for the individual and the collective."

Moxon was joined in the League Two team of the season by Leyton Orient trio Lawrence Vigouroux, Omar Beckles and Idris El Mizouni, Salford City duo Elliot Watt - the former Carlisle loanee - and Ibou Touray, Northampton Town pair Sam Hoskins and Mitch Pinnock, Stevenage's Carl Piergianni, Colchester United's Junior Tchamadeu and Bradford City's former Blues striker Andy Cook.

Hoskins was named League Two player of the season from a shortlist that also included Cook and Piergianni, while Tchamadeu was named the division's young player of the season.

United boss Paul Simpson, meanwhile, missed out on the division's manager of the season award for League Two.

The prize went to Richie Wellens, boss of champions Leyton Orient.

Simpson was on the three-man shortlist along with Stevenage's Steve Evans.

League One's manager of the season was Plymouth Argyle's Steven Schumacher - a former Carlisle loan player - while the Championship manager of the season award went to Burnley's Vincent Kompany.

The Championship's player of the season was Middlesbrough frontman Chuba Akpom, with League One's player of the season Bristol Rovers forward Aaron Collins.

Championship young player of the season was Bristol City's Alex Scott with the League One young player prize going to Plymouth Argyle's Bali Mumba.

Other awards included supporter of the season going to Luton Town's Les Miller, community club of the season awarded to Wigan Athletic, innivation award presented to Norwich City, community project of the season to MK Dons, green club award to Bristol City, fan engagement award to Bolton Wanderers, diversity award to Middlesbrough and player in the community award to Omar Beckles.

Club employee of the year was Burton Albion's John Clarke.

The apprentice of the year awards for the three divisions went to Blackburn Rovers' Ash Phillips, Zach Mitchell of Charlton Athletic and Josh Tomlinson of Northampton Town.

There was also a 'contribution to league football' award presented to Chris Kamara, while the Sir Tom Finney Award went to Adebayo Akinfenwa.
