Carlisle United equalled and broke a pair of club records with their 1-0 victory over Barrow.

The win took their tally of league clean sheets to 20 this season - the joint best total in the Blues' history.

And it was also a milestone day for Tomas Holy, who now holds the record for the most league shut-outs in a season by an individual United keeper.

He has kept all 20 of United's clean sheets so far in the 2022/23 League Two campaign.

That puts the Czech No1 ahead of previous record holder Dave McKellar, who was responsible for 19 shut-outs in the 1983/4 Division Two season.

McKellar's feat came in 42 league games across the full campaign, with Holy having overtaken him in 44 outings.

From a team point of view, United have now matched the feat of their last promotion side in terms of keeping opponents at bay.

Paul Simpson's 2005/6 League Two title winners achieved 20 clean sheets in their 46 games that season.

Carlisle have matched that number in two fewer games - and could now set a new record if they keep Salford City and/or Sutton United at bay in their last two games.

Their denial of Barrow took them ahead of the 1983/4 and 1978/9 teams, who achieved 19 league shut-outs in those respective campaigns, over 42 and 46 matches respectively.

Holy, meanwhile, kept up his record as the only Carlisle player to play in every minute of their league season so far.

The keeper made a vital early save to keep out Barrow's Harrison Neal.

Later, after Ben Barclay hit United's goal, the Blues dug in defensively to hold off Pete Wild's hosts, Jack Armer denying Ben Whitfield with a vital first-half challenge.

Home sub Josh Kay almost denied United their latest shut-out, but hit the post in added time as Carlisle held on for the win which keeps their promotion push on track.
