Carlisle United are set to open the Waterworks End again for the last home game of the season.

Club bosses have confirmed that the terrace, which was open to home fans on the Good Friday game against Tranmere, will be used again for the Salford City clash.

The Tranmere game saw Blues fans on the Waterworks End for the first time since 2009, as part of United’s bumper 13,410 crowd.

Finance director Suzanne Kidd told a fans’ forum last night that the Salford game on Saturday, April 29 – which could be pivotal to United’s promotion chances – will see it open again.

“We’ve spoken this morning and the plan is to open it for the Salford game, the last [home ] game of the season,” she said.

Asked about the possibility of the terrace being used more regularly in future, Kidd added: “It depends on crowds and demand.

“It’s a thing in the air – it was great on [Good] Friday to have home fans on all four sides.

“It would be nice for that to be a regular thing.”

Chief executive Nigel Clibbens stressed the club were not currently looking beyond the Salford game regarding the Waterworks, adding: “Anybody who didn’t get in for Tranmere, get in for Salford.”

United, meanwhile, are looking into the possibility of “beaming back” their last game of the League Two campaign.

Carlisle go to Sutton United on Monday, May 8.

Currently that game is not available to watch on the iFollow streaming platform because of agreements between the EFL and broadcaster Sky Sports.

Co-owner John Nixon said discussions are ongoing about the possibility of allowing the game on iFollow.

But if those talks are unsuccessful, the Blues will explore the possibility of showing the game on screens at Brunton Park.

Nixon said: “For the last game of the season, the EFL agreement with Sky Sports is that it is not allowed on iFollow, even thought it’s not being played on Saturday – it’s on the Monday, because of the King’s coronation.

“At two EFL board meetings ago, in February, I made a request that we go to Sky Sports and ask to change that agreement, but we weren’t exactly in a strong position, because at that time the EFL had gone out to tender to various organisation for their television going forward from 2024.

“Currently they’re locked in with Sky Sports and in discussions. I’m told that as recently as this afternoon [Thursday], we’ve asked the question and there may be a possibility. Who knows.

“Failing that, Suzanne is ready to ask if we can do a beam-back to Brunton Park on that Monday.”
