Paul Huntington will captain Carlisle United this weekend after the injury to regular skipper Morgan Feeney.

Manager Paul Simpson has handed the armband to his most experienced defender for the Tranmere Rovers clash.

It will see Carlisle-born Huntington lead his home-city club for the first time.

The 35-year-old gets the nod for the Good Friday game after the news that Feeney is set to miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Corey Whelan has deputised with the armband this season but he has not made an appearance for over a month.

“I’m a big believer you have to have a group of leaders.

“We’ve got other people in there – we need Tomas Holy to start leading, to be a vocal point at the back with his 6ft 8in frame or whatever it is.

“Hunts can lead. We need people like Owen Moxon and Callum Guy, who’ve been captains, to lead, we need senior players like Joe Garner to lead, whether on the grass or in the dressing room.

“We need them all to step up to the plate.

“They’ve all got enough games under their belt, they all know what’s at stake and what we want to achieve.

“Hopefully they will all lead us to where we want to go.”
