Two clubs have approached Manchester United over a permanent move for Dean Henderson, latest reports claim.

The Cumbrian goalkeeper's future is the subject of growing speculation.

And things could be pointing to a summer departure for the Whitehaven star, who is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest.

A report in The Athletic suggested this could be the summer when Man Utd cash in on 26-year-old Henderson.

Two unnamed clubs have made contact regarding a permanent transfer for the England international, the report adds.

Henderson is unlikely to be keen to return to Old Trafford only to stay second choice to David de Gea, after the Cumbrian's return to first-team football in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest this season.

Forest and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs who have been linked with a move for the keeper.

Henderson is due to return from injury next month after a thigh problem, when he will compete with Kaylor Navas for the No1 position at Forest for the rest of the season.

A permanent departure from Man Utd would be of considerable interest to Carlisle United, who stand to benefit from a sell-on clause following his move to the Red Devils from the Blues' academy in 2011.

Another Cumbrian whose future is the subject of speculation is Everton's ex-Carlisle defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

PSV Eindhoven, where Branthwaite is starring on loan, would like to sign him permanently but could miss out because of the potential price tag.

Dutch football reporter Marco Timmer, who covers PSV, said the club have already made attempts to sign Wigton star Branthwaite permanently.

“They will still try to keep that boy, but that will not be easy. You are talking about amounts of more than ten million euros," he said, speaking on Voetbal International’s Skiete Willy Podcast

“It is not easy for PSV to put such amounts on the table. It is a lot for PSV. [There will be a point where] you say you have to take a step back."

Carlisle could also benefit from a sell-on if Branthwaite - who Everton signed from the Blues in 2020 - departs.

Branthwaite has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Roma. The defender is currently working his way back from the injury that saw him pull out of the England Under-21 squad last week.
