Jamie Blamire won the battle of the Cumbrians as Newcastle Falcons claimed a memorable win over Chris Harris and Gloucester.

The two Cumbrian players went head to head in the Gallagher Premiership clash.

And Seaton star Blamire ended up on the winning side over Carlisle's Harris.

Newcastle prevailed 17-12 in a fiery clash on Friday despite seeing Richard Palframan sent off in the first half.

Falcons interim head coach Mark Laycock felt it was their best performance of the season at Kingston Park.

He said: "It's all down to the effort the boys have put in - fair play to them for putting in such a huge shift tonight.

"We're used to dealing with adversity - I think we see the best of us in adverse times and today was one of those occasions."

England hooker Blamire was replaced in the 37th minute by Ollie Fletcher, while Scotland centre Harris played the full game for Gloucester.

Falcons prop Palframan was sent off for a shoulder tackle in the 16th minute but the bottom-placed hosts produced a hugely spirited performance to come from behind and defeat their ninth-placed visitors.
