Cumbrian star Jarrad Branthwaite claimed the first two-goal haul of his career in a cup victory for PSV Eindhoven.

The former Carlisle United defender scored twice in the first half in his loan club's 3-1 victory over FC Emmen.

Branthwaite scored in the seventh and 14th minutes as Ruud Van Nistelrooy's side surged into the lead in the KNVB Cup.

The Wigton defender, who is on loan from Everton, was also named man of the match at the game at the Philips Stadion.

It was the 20-year-old's latest impressive showing as he enjoys a good run in the side at PSV.

Branthwaite has started their last six Eredivisie games after it was confirmed he would be remaining at PSV for the season, there having been speculation he could return to Everton in January.

Branthwaite was also the subject of a permanent bid by PSV last months but the England Under-20 international remains an Everton player.

Holders PSV sealed their place in the TOTO KNVB Beker cup quarter-finals thanks to a late Luuk de Jong strike , after Emmen's Mark Diemers had halved their Branthwaite-enforced deficit.

Branthwaite has so far made 14 league appearances for PSV, scoring one league goal for the side who currently sit fourth.

The Cumbrian came through the ranks at Carlisle before joining Everton in January 2020. This is the second loan spell of his career following a stint at Blackburn Rovers in 2021.
