Carlisle United fans were in jubilant mood when they gave us their views on Twitter after the 5-1 thrashing of Cumbrian rivals Barrow. Here is a selection.

A big statement of intent! Surprising starting XI but we have a squad of players here that come into the team willing to fight. Just got to keep level heads and keep on doing what we are doing and go after the top two! (@cumbrianbluess)

I’m kind of stunned. Totally stunned how good we were and wiped Barrow away. Blimey we were good. Huge statement to the rest of the league with that win. That ball from Moxon for Garner... (@SamTJohnston24)

Just amazing. Horrible conditions but we limited Barrow to virtually nothing and were absolutely clinical (@mattselliott)

Fairly tight first half but an absolutely brilliant second half display. Fingers crossed we can keep the momentum going (@Glass942)

Superb that. Absolutely smashed them in their cup final. To a man superb especially after Mellish went into midfield. Almost perfect performance. (@parkinsonross)

Statement win that, cruise control second half. After the second goal players could’ve got the cigars out, excellent effort from the Warwick young team tonight (@NavyDave94)

There’s only one Simmo, and he wears a magic hat. He came back to Carlisle (only 11 months ago!) and said I fancy that. (@NotInSeddon)

I walked out of BP last year after Port V game. The club was consigned to history, crowds almost <3k, no atmosphere, no energy, no life, miserable-Now, words fail me. The transformation is unimaginable 12 months ago, A miracle. (@harveyangus)

Tell everyone in the town to get down on Saturday and enjoy the promotion push, let’s hit 10k! We’ve got super Paul Simpson!! (@henryh_98)

Watching the goals this morning confirmed my view on the night that Moxon’s assist for Patrick’s goal was even better than the pass that found Garner. Think I prefer Gordon to Patrick as a starter because his touch is better in midfield, but that’s nitpicking: in Simmo we trust! (@JHallHDI)

Just think back 12 months and how much we were all planning for non-league. Thank-you Paul Simpson, and the BoD for bringing the messiah back (@dougrmurphy)

Summed up by Wild's thoughts that they'd be better playing "with the wind" second half. That's non-league/schoolboy stuff. Most good teams play better into the wind where the ball will hold up. We absolutely ripped them apart second half, quick into the tackle, class assists. (@JRBulman)

First half controlled in difficult conditions. Second half domination. Midfield excellent...Gibson, Guy, Mellish but Moxon, he is some player. He does things at this level that others can't. Not just the passing but his strength and ability to win the ball back, is it 11pm yet? (@BenJoseph0157)

Great tweak by Simmo on 30 mins with Mellish. Moxon is quality. Best part of deadline day was he stayed. Garner strong and Patrick looked sharp. Shout out for Barclay. Could go on and on but have a peeve ready. (@JasonGarrick4)

First half solid if not spectacular, goal at a great time. Second half we were superior all over, lads were well up for it and we’ve dished out the thrashing we’ve been threatening. Comprehensive dismantling job. (@havenmarra)

The buzz is back. We're all excited! (Sorry) (@RegReagan2)

It’s the sort of game we’d usually struggle in. We didn’t look dominant in the first half, but we turned it on in the second half. Genuinely haven’t enjoyed a match that much in years. Paul is a thoroughly competent soccer coach. (@mspoonz)

Well if you wanted a game with everything and more that was it. A less than assured first half exploded into a rout and ultimate collapse of Barra. Everybody to a man played their part. It's a joy to see. Happy Days! (@LindaNi121202)

Never in doubt (@RonnieSmith1964)

Comprehensive performance from the team tonight. Things can only get better with this squad of players. (@peterjo91525330)

50 points by the end of January - relegation dogfight avoided... (@j_michaelb)

Absolutely smashed it up the league we go, get up (@ShAnEg23)

We’ve got super Paul Simpson……Mellish at the back, Mellish in attack…….Quality midfield performance (@NeilBro77246607)
