Barrow AFC have made a signing ahead of tonight's clash with Carlisle United.

The Bluebirds have brought in forward Ged Garner from Fleetwood Town.

He has signed a permanent two-and-a-half year deal with Barrow saying they have paid a club record fee for the 24-year-old.

“Ged is a player that I’ve been tracking/trying to sign for around three years,” said manager Pete Wild.

“He has the quality to open up defences with clever play and can create goals out of nothing."

Other League Two clubs had been interested in Garner but Barrow have won the race on transfer deadline day.

The fee they have paid the League One club for Garner's services is undisclosed.

It is unlikely Garner's move will have been completed in time for him to be involved in the Cumbrian derby at Brunton Park.

Another man not involved is Brown, who has left the club.

The defender has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Bluebirds boss Wild said Brown has left in pursuit of regular first-team football.

It ends a spell of nearly five years in south Cumbria for the 31-year-old, who was part of the squad that earned promotion back to the Football League in 2020.

The ex-Sheffield United man made 107 appearances for the Bluebirds.

“I would like to thank Connor for all his efforts for the Football Club,” said Wild on the Barrow website.

“He has been an exceptional pro throughout the time I’ve been at the club.

“Connor had a desire to go and get regular first team football, and I wasn’t going to stand in his way.”

Brown had a loan spell at Carlisle from Oldham Athletic in the 2014/15 season, making nine appearances.
