Carlisle United’s all-Cumbrian clash with Barrow AFC tonight looks set to attract Brunton Park’s biggest midweek league crowd for over a decade.

The Blues at Tuesday lunchtime said ticket sales were around the 8,300 mark.

That means it will be their biggest home crowd of the season so far, topping the 8,296 attendance for the Boxing Day victory over Bradford City.

In terms of Tuesday night crowds, it also looks likely to be the largest* for some time.

It will at least be the biggest midweek league gate since 8,728 watched the Blues lose to Leeds United on home soil in League One on April 13, 2010 - and could now go past that figure.

If it does, it will be the biggest home league Tuesday crowd since April 8, 2008 when 10,623 watched the Tuesday night clash with League One promotion rivals Swansea City.

Other big midweek crowds have come in cup competitions in recent times at Brunton Park.

The League Cup saw 12,625 inside Carlisle’s ground for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on September 26, 2012.

Leeds also drew 9,430 to Brunton Park on February 9, 2010 for the dramatic Johnstone’s Paint Trophy northern final second leg.

Carlisle’s biggest league crowd of recent seasons came on Saturday, February 16, when 10,459 watched their League Two clash with MK Dons.

Last season’s biggest gate was for the 2-1 win over Northampton Town, when 8,514 were at Brunton Park, also on a Saturday.

The latter two games saw crowds boosted by ticket discount offers.

United’s game against Barrow at Brunton Park last season, meanwhile, attracted a 7,470 attendance.
