Former Carlisle United loan man Connor Malley is on the move - to Ireland.

The midfielder, who was with the Blues in the 2020/21 season, has joined Dundalk.

The 22-year-old has signed what the club described as a "multi-year" deal ahead of this year's SSE Airtricity League campaign.

Malley was previously with United's League Two rivals Rochdale in a spell earlier this season.

He has now decided to head to the League of Ireland under Dundalk boss Stephen O'Donnell at Oriel Park.

“At my age, whatever move I made was going to be a big decision but after hearing what Stephen said and having a look around the club and the town, I feel like this could be a really good fit," Malley said.

Malley was with Middlesbrough, where he had been from under-16 level, when he joined Carlisle on loan in the early stages of the 2020/21 season under Chris Beech.

The attacking midfielder only made five appearances in an injury-hit spell before returning to his parent club.

He had another loan spell at Gateshead before leaving Boro at the end of last season.

A 14-game stint at Rochdale followed before he left the League Two strugglers earlier this month.

Dundalk boss O'Donnell told the club website: "Connor’s a good height, has a good frame and he has a lot of ability.

"He’s a player I’m really excited by and I can’t wait to see him in a Dundalk jersey.

“He’s coming here to reignite himself."
