The manager of Carlisle United's play-off rivals Swindon Town has quit - to join struggling Crawley Town.

Scott Lindsey has been confirmed as Crawley's new boss on a two-and-a-half year deal.

He is followed to Sussex by assistant Jamie Day.

The move sees Lindsey swap League Two's eighth-placed side for the club in fourth bottom.

Swindon are a point behind the fourth-placed Blues.

In a statement, new Crawley boss Lindsey said: "I’m really excited to be here. It has taken a while, but I am delighted to finally get the deal done and over the line.

"I am straight to work on the training ground tomorrow, they are a great group of lads, and I look forward to working with them."

Lindsey said he was "excited" by the plans tabled by Crawley's cryptocurrency owners WAGMI United, whose running of the club has come in for criticism this season.

Swindon have placed Gavin Gunning and Steve Mildenhall in caretaker charge.

"Our prime aim is now focused on bringing in a new head coach who shares the same drive, ambition, vision and values as we do in order to drive us forward, with promotion this season very much still our intended target," said Robins owner Clem Morfuni.
